Lakshman Kadirgamar Memorial(s)

Lakshman Kadirgamar was the Minister for Foreign Affairs when he was assassinated by a LTTE sniper while getting out of his swimming pool at his private residence on Buller’s Lane, on August 12th 2005. The Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies, a think tank on international affairs, was established in his memory a year after his assassination.

A statue of Kadirgamar adorns the entrance to this institution located in Horton Place, and was unveiled by President Rajapakse in August 2013. A statue of Kadirgamar was also erected at the Liberty roundabout in Colombo, on February 4th 2007.
