St Philip Neri Church Shelling, Allaipiddy

On August 13th 2006, at 4.30am, an artillery shell fell on the church, killing at least 15 people and injuring up to 54. The wounded were taken to Jaffna for treatment by Father Jim Brown and the Jaffna Magistrate, after much pleading with the Navy.  Fr Brown subsequently relocated 300 families from Allaipiddy to St. Mary’s Church in Kayts. He “disappeared” a week after the shelling . The Jaffna Magistrate was transferred to Point Pedro.
